Ok Go – White Knuckles

Ok Go has been well known and well received for their uncanny ability to one-up themselves with each new music video they’ve done and most of them have been filmed in one take (a pretty incredible feat).

The latest video features a bunch of tricks with dogs and I can’t say it’s as inspired as the Rude Goldberg machine music video from their last track, but “White Knuckles” is head and shoulders above what most other musicians are putting out in the way of videos lately. And it makes you wonder what on earth their label (EMI, Capitol) was thinking dropping them- surely their lackluster record sales could be compensated for by monetizing their YouTube channel?

This video was on 735 visits when I saw it last night and overnight it’s up to half a million… not bad for a group of independent musicians :)

Enjoy and feel free to let us know what you think in the comments!

Adidas Star Wars – Boba Fett ZX 800

Welp, Adidas has gone and done it again… and I don’t even like Star Wars!

With their latest release Adidas has, very intelligently, captured the hearts and minds of toy-lovers and sneakerheads the world around. The concept of “boxfresh” is fairly unique to the trainer lovers, though if there is any comparison any action figure collector can appreciate this coddling of their favourite product.

An unopened toy/figure is worth infinitely more than an opened toy (in mint condition). Why are people old enough, patient and responsible enough to leave their toys in the package for years still buying action figures is a question in itself… though there is no doubt that with toys and old baseball cards the unopened pack is the holy grail of a collectors patience.

When it comes to trainers, I’ve never been a big fan of the idea of copping kicks you’re never going to wear, or copping kicks just to re-sell. I can almost understand the “wear ‘em twice and put ‘em on ice” mentality, but that’s about as far as I’m willing to go. With that said, I think these might be worth keeping sealed and displayed proudly in Daddy’s creepy toy shack.

Hunting these down may be tougher than finding water in Tatooine, but try your local Adidas orignals stockist.

What do you lot think of these? Pop-tags or hermetically sealed?

Today’s Tribute to Hipsters

So it is rare that we blog two times a day… frankly it’s not sustainable. However, this is too funny not to include on the blog. There is no real need to describe the above video “I Love my Life as a Dickhead” other than to point out how well it has captured the scene/vibe of so many young people living in East London.

Definitely wait until the end as some of the “characters” descriptions of how they’re livin are perhaps the best part of the video. Enjoy the laughs… or the awkward self-reflection… or whatever this video inspires in you.

Gotta give a quick shout to The Poke, without whom we would not have come across this little gem.

Internet Culture Meets Pop-Culture

Ladies and gents, today it is my distinct pleasure to share with you a combination of my two loves: mash-up music and internet humor. Evan Roth took just about every great animated .gif the internet had to offer and made a music video to some Girl Talk beats off of Night Ripper.

Enjoy this masterpiece in all of it’s glory. If you’ve never heard Girl Talk, his music should be appreciated in its own right so you can check out Gregg Gills’ (aka Girl Talk) myspace page to have a listen.

In the meantime, have a look and a listen to this video for the first animated gif music video, some fresh beats and some lulz. Enjoy!

Cineroluem – New Cinema in Clerkenwell

So, whilst having a drink with a friend the other day over by Pop-up Pirates we noticed a group of hipsters playing with aluminum tarps across the road at a gas station. We only assumed it would be some sort of art exhibition, squat party or something else bordering on awful.

However, as it turns out… the final product is nothing short of a work of art in and of itself- and it provides reasonably priced cinema within walking distance of my house so who are we to complain. My hat is off to the folks behind this project and I’m looking forward to checking out a film there ASAP. I will be sure to post a review once I can get a ticket to the bloody place!

The picture doesn’t quite do the place justice, but the chairs are handbuilt out of wood, they’ve gone with a classic marquis and the silver tarps previously mentioned serve as curtains to help you forget you’re in downtown London. You may have to watch out for splinters but this is a masterstroke of architectural repurposing!

Next time you’re in the area definitely check it out:
